Backpacking Trip Around the Country

Travel is the movement of humans between various geographical locations. The ancient world traveled by land and by sea. Travel can take place by car, bicycle, foot, plane, train, bus, boat or other modes, with or without gear, and is either one way to a given destination or around the globe. Ancient peoples traded goods and cultures with one another across distance as well as over short distances via boats. In modern times, modern living conveniences have made international travel within much of the globe simple and quick. Air travel within the United States has become safer and more convenient than ever before, while boats and automobiles have made travel across international borders relatively easy and safe.

Travel has been an important part of human history since its earliest forms of transportation-the use of horses for travel and the use of relay systems to transport crops from one place to another. Early man had little in the way of technology for transportation, but he did manage to make his trip to the next town across the woods even if he traveled via a wicker basket (a simple structure consisting of strips of plant fiber attached to wooden poles). Travel across continents, whether on foot, by horseback, by canoe or on an ox cart, was simple and relatively safe for those who could not travel by land. However, very soon after the development of trade, transportation methods began to alter. With the assistance of iron and other new metals, people were able to move between different countries, allowing people to travel from one place to another, and with the expansion of trade, trading routes developed along the seams of the world.

Today’s world has changed travel, for the better. With new airports, new train lines, and new airports that connect cities across the country, it is now possible to fly from one point to another with little planning or preparation, although some do choose to travel by train, as well. Some travelers prefer to backpack along, taking in the sights and sounds along the way and possibly sleeping in a tent, rather than taking a cab to the next town over, as is often the case. With many airlines now offering nonstop flights, it is now easier than ever for someone to take a quick backpacking trip across the country, even if they only plan to be away for a day or two. No matter what your personal travel plans are, whether it be for business or pleasure, there is sure to be a way for you to get from one place to another, by just getting out your own pack and heading out the door.
