What Is Fashion?

Fashion is an art form of self-awareness and autonomy in a certain context and at a certain time and in a certain setting. The word simply means a particular style defined by the fashion industry at what is currently trending. Trends are defined by the public as any new style or trend which becomes widely accepted as being stylish and fashionable by the vast majority of the population. A few years ago, a fashion was a fad that came and went quickly.

In today’s society fashion is a multi-billion dollar industry, with its own industry organization and forum. Fashion designers and product manufacturers rely on feedback provided by consumers, press, magazines, and fashion magazines to help them define and create new styles and trends. Fashion gurus to answer questions for consumers who would like the latest fashion tips and tricks that will make them look and feel better and increase their social justice rating. The information presented in fashion magazines and journals are analyzed by fashion experts to create current information and to predict future fashion trends. This information presented to the public to answer questions such as, how I can look and feel my best, what I should have worn last summer when I went to this or that event, where I should go this weekend to try out my new skirt and shoes or whether I should buy black this week because it’s a trend, etc.

Current styles and trends are frequently in need of a revival or modification to conform to changing consumer preferences. If a style is no longer considered trendy it is considered over-the-top and not tasteful by many current consumers. The public likes to be trendy, if one’s clothes and overall appearance changes with times. The most popular types of fashion clothing changes annually based on what is in and what is out. Styles are changed due to advertising campaigns sponsored by different industries, movies, political issues, color schemes, cosmetic applications, etc.
