Where to Get Started With Blogging

A blog is an informative or discussion site published online, typically consisting of informal, sometimes personalized blog-style text posts. Blogs are usually displayed in either chronological or reverse chronological order, with the latest post appearing at the top of the page, above the older posts. There are some blogs which allow readers to vote on articles or other topics. Popular blogs are often linked to other popular blogs, or promoted by being listed in search engine results.

In contrast to the websites, blogs are designed to generate revenue from advertising. Google is one of the biggest pay-per-click advertisers on blogs, and many other websites, both free and paid for, provide advertising space for blog posts. Some sites, such as StumbleUpon, actively promote blogs and may contain advertisements within blog posts. Other websites, such as Facebook, show sponsored links within blog posts, and may use cookies or other tracking mechanisms to track visitors who have viewed those specific pages.

While it’s possible to create your own blog posts, it’s easier to use blog posting platforms that automate the process. Blogger, WordPress, and LiveJournal are all excellent free blog posting platforms which won’t cost you anything extra, and which give you the ability to quickly and easily create new blog posts as well as edit existing blog posts. If you want to monetize your blog, you can choose from several different options, including Google AdSense, merchant accounts, and affiliate programs. You’ll need to brainstorm content ideas and then choose an advertising model that will get you traffic, and which will appeal to your target audience.
