To ensure the proper functioning of a human body, there is a need to feed it the right food, in the right quantity. There are 7 major food groups, which are carbohydrates, protein, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, fruits and grains. Each group has specific food requirement to maintain a person’s health. According to a study, there are almost nine calories per gram of carbohydrate in the amount of carbohydrates that most people consume in their diet, and almost half a gram of protein in the amount of protein that most people consume in their diet.
Food is defined as food containing one molecule of carbon, two molecules of nitrogen, four molecules of oxygen and six other elements. Carbohydrates are the main sources of energy in the body, and they can be found in foods like sugar, starch, fibre, oil, and several types of vegetables. Food that is rich in carbohydrates contains a high level of energy, which makes it a main source of energy for the body.
The reason why carbohydrates are the most important macronutrients for the human body is because they can easily be converted into glucose, a form of energy useful for the body. The amount of glucose in the bloodstream determines how much energy is available to the body. There are also certain nutrients found in carbohydrates that are converted into other nutrients, hence making carbohydrates a good source of macronutrients, which is why they are a great part of the diet.
